Uruguayan wines have unique qualities given the country’s privileged geographical location, climate, and soil diversity

Located between parallels 30° and 35° (south latitude), the clear, positive influence of the sea moderates the temperatures during the hottest months of the year, granting Uruguayan wines with a particularly fresh touch.

About the varieties planted: Tannat, Cabernet Franc, Marselan, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Arinarnoa, Chardonnay, Viognier, and Sauvignon Blanc.

The Traversa Family vineyards are located in the South of Uruguay, spreading over 300 hectares in the Cuchilla Pereira region of Montevideo and in the Paso Cuello region of Canelones, in the South of Uruguay. Additionally, the Family purchases grapes from over 100 small-scale producers under the strict monitoring and quality control conducted by our technical team.

The vineyard, located in Paso Cuello, Canelones, is made up of 80 planted hectares

The clay, limestone, sedimentary, quaternary calcareous rock with high concentrations of calcium carbonate is the soil-forming material that gives way to clay limestone soils with a neutral to slightly alkaline pH, thus allowing for a deep plan rooting. The vineyard spreads across high hills and slopes that favor proper water drainage and the aeration of both vegetation and grape bunches. This terroir has a high potential for producing mature grapes that are rich in color, polyphenols, and structure.

The vineyard located in Cuchilla Pereira, Montevideo, is located in the highest point of the winegrowing area of the Department of Montevideo, only 15 km away from the sea (straight line distance to the Montevideo Bay.) The soils are made up of the same geological material as those in Paso Cuello, but here they are more superficial and lighter (Francos).

The high topographic elevation and the proximity to sea contributes to having lower temperatures in the vineyard and an earlier growing season than expected together with a slower ripening process that leads to incredibly aromatic grapes.
